Here Are Our FAQ’s
WHEN SHOULD I START SLEEP TRAINING?
You can instill good sleep habits from the day your baby is born. By teaching healthy sleep habits early on helps to prevent sleep troubles down the road. Official sleep training, (which is the process of helping your child get to sleep and stay asleep by teaching good sleep habits), can begin at 4 months of age. When you decide to sleep train your child, it is important for you to fully commit and choose a time in which you can dedicate yourself a 1-3 week time period.
WHY HIRE A SLEEP CONSULTANT?
All of the books you may have read and advice your family and friends have given you to get your baby or toddler to sleep can be conflicting, confusing, and overwhelming. Kasey offers customized sleep plans tailored to each family based on parenting style and baby/child’s temperament. She provides you with valuable knowledge that is condensed into an easier and shorter form than a whole book. You will receive a range of techniques from gentle to more direct, tips, and tools to help you feel confident with implementing your sleep plan.
Another advantage to hiring Kasey is the ongoing support and guidance she will provide to you during the entire process. You will be able to contact her regularly so she can answer any questions and/or concerns you may have and to adjust the plan accordingly.
HOW DOES THE PROCESS WORK?
After you contact Kasey and purchase a package on her website, she will email you her assessment and consent form. Once you have completed the forms, Kasey will email you any additional questions she may have for clarification so that she can put together a conclusive and personalized sleep plan for your child. If Kasey does not need any more clarification, she will email you the customized sleep plan within 48-72 hours. If you purchased the WISH UPON A STAR, SWEET DREAMS, and ROCKABYE BABY package, she will then schedule a call to go over the plan, and you can ask her any questions you may have. Once you both agree to a start date of when to implement the plan, Kasey will be there for you every step of the way by providing ongoing support and guidance to you with daily check-ins and email/text support while implementing your child’s sleep plan.
WHAT WILL BE INCLUDED WITH THE SLEEP PLAN?
When you receive your personalized sleep plan, Kasey provides information about the importance of teaching your child to fall asleep on their own, sleep basics, bedroom and crib environment, the night time plan, including bedtime routine, options for sleep training methods and how to address your child when they cry, and the day time plan, including an age appropriate daytime sleep schedule and nap training.
SHOULD I EXPECT ANY CRYING DURING THE PROCESS?
Of course no one likes to hear their baby cry. Babies thrive on routine and chances are your baby is not sleeping well as their routine is not beneficial to restful and restorative sleep. When a new routine is created, old habits have to be broken, and as a result, your baby will protest and show their frustration by crying. This is their way to communicate to you. Don’t mistake that crying for fear, sadness, or abandonment. Crying is nothing more than protesting and it’s usually short lived. Once your baby learns the new way to fall asleep, the protesting and tears will stop, and your baby will be falling asleep on their own. For this reason, Kasey cannot promise a tear-free experience, but she does not believe in the “cry-it-out” method. She does not believe a child should be left alone in their crib for hours on end to cry without interaction. Letting your child experience some tears while you are there to comfort and love them is something very different. Kasey’s sleep training methods are always tailored to your comfort level, your baby’s temperament, and together you will find a solution that works best for your family!
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO WORK?
This depends on your child’s age, temperament, and the methods you choose to use. You can expect to see significant improvement in your child’s sleep within a few days to a few weeks. Sleep is a time investment to establish healthy sleep habits that will last a lifetime!
WHY SHOULD I SLEEP TRAIN MY CHILD?
Getting proper rest is essential for our health and wellbeing. Sleep troubles in infancy does not get better on its own and tends to continue into toddlerhood and childhood. It is a lot easier to establish healthy sleep habits and break poor ones in the early years of a child’s life. We all feel well-rested on a good night’s rest without interruption. Think of how you feel without getting enough rest and sleep deprivation kicks in. That’s how your child feels. The best thing you can do for your child is to allow them to learn this life skill of how to fall asleep and stay asleep on their own.
DOES SLEEP TRAINING ALWAYS WORK?
Absolutely! The majority of sleep training methods are very successful as long as the parents are very consistent and committed in following through with the sleep plan. Kasey can create the best plan for your child, coach you through it, and stay on top of you, but you need to implement and execute on it. Keep in mind that sleep training is always an ongoing process. During the first year of your baby’s life, there are many new developmental milestones and sickness that can disrupt sleep. Once you get a good plan in place and you see improvement with your child’s sleep, then you will have the tools after the initial coaching to help you and your child through these bumps in the road.
